VDOT CONTINUES STRONG PERFORMANCE WITH DELIVERING PROJECTS ON TIME AND ON BUDGET
Latest quarterly report card released
RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) improves its on-time performance for the second fiscal quarter. For construction projects scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of fiscal year 2005 (October – December), VDOT finished 78 percent on time, up from the first quarter’s performance of 67 percent and last fiscal year’s second quarter performance of 29 percent.
“VDOT is making significant progress with our greatest challenge – delivering projects on time,” said VDOT Commissioner Philip Shucet. “The improved performance is a result of better project management and holding ourselves accountable for results.”
VDOT’s definition of “on-time” means that a project is finished on the original contract completion date, regardless of any justified extensions such as bad weather or other legitimate reasons. Shucet said that this is the strictest definition of “on time” of any state department of transportation.
