VDOT MEETING GOALS FOR ON-TIME AND ON-BUDGET PROJECTS
Third report for fiscal year 2007 shows persistent improvement
RICHMOND — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) continues tracking progress to exceed all construction and maintenance deadline, budget and quality targets through the third quarter of fiscal year 2007, running from Jan. 1 through March 31, 2007. The results were released as part of the department’s quarterly report issued this week.
“Once again, this report shows that our unrelenting effort to deliver projects on-time and on-budget is changing our business,” said Commissioner David S. Ekern. “As we move forward into the next fiscal year, we will keep our focus on schedules and budgets while adding additional performance measures to drive improvements in customer satisfaction, financial accountability, safety and VDOT management. These quarterly reports and our Dashboard will tell more of the story about the work of this $3.8 billion mobility corporation.”
Report Card Results:
Deadlines:
Construction contracts completed on time (FY 2007 goal, 70 percent)
Maintenance contracts completed on time (FY 2007 goal, 75 percent)
Budgets:
Construction contracts completed within budget (FY 2007 goal, 80 percent)
Maintenance contracts completed within budget (FY 2007 goal, 90 percent)
Statewide Construction Quality Compliance: (FY 2007 goal, 91 percent)

“It is too soon to celebrate achievement of our goals in all areas for this entire year,” Ekern said. “During the next quarter, the pressure will be on to achieve all five goals for the entire fiscal year 2007 and deliver the best possible transportation system to our customers, the citizens of Virginia.”
In a major effort to provide citizen access to VDOT’s performance measurements, the agency began releasing quarterly reports and launched its Dashboard in 2003. The Dashboard is an online system that provides the latest status on construction, maintenance, operations, safety, finance and environmental compliance.
