VDOT ANNOUNCES TENTATIVE ENHANCEMENT GRANTS
Public input sought on tentative grant allocations
RICHMOND –The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that 75 projects across the state are tentatively selected to receive $24.1 million in enhancement grant funding.
The funding is for projects that integrate transportation into our communities and environment, enhance the public’s traveling experience, revitalize communities and improve the quality of life.
The Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) provides federal funding for community-based projects that integrate transportation into communities.
In accordance with SAFETEA-LU requirements, each state must set aside 10 percent of its federal Surface Transportation Program funds for enhancement projects.
Each year, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) awards this funding to selected projects based on a competitive process. The fiscal year 2013 Enhancement Program allocations will be approved at the June CTB meeting.
Copies of the tentative allocations listing will be available at the Six-Year Transportation Improvement public meetings beginning Tuesday, April 24.
