PUBLIC INPUT SOUGHT ON UPCOMING DRAFT SIX-YEAR TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
Four meetings to be held throughout the commonwealth once draft is released in mid-May
RICHMOND – The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) will release the state’s working draft of the Fiscal Years 2014-2019 Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP) at the next monthly meeting scheduled for May 15. The program will provide additional statewide funding as a result of the historic transportation funding plan passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Bob McDonnell this year. Funding will go toward highway, road and bridge projects as well as rail, transit, bicycle, pedestrian and other transportation improvements across the state over the next six fiscal years beginning July 1, 2013.
The draft six-year program will be available online at www.Virginiadot.org on May 15, once the CTB has released the program during its meeting, which will be held at 10 a.m. in VDOT’s Central Office Auditorium located at 1201 E Broad St., Richmond, VA 23219.
Following the May 15 meeting, the CTB will hold four public hearings to solicit public comments about essential rail, transit, transportation demand management, bicycle, pedestrian and highway projects in the working draft of the six-year program. In addition, the tentative list of projects selected by the CTB for Transportation Alternatives Program funding will be available. Public comments will be considered before the CTB adopts a final program in June. The Fiscal Years 2014 - 19 SYIP will go into effect July 1, 2013.
