VDOT HOLDS INDIAN HOLLOW ROAD CITIZEN INFORMATION MEETING
Citizens can come in during the meeting hours and discuss the project on a one-on-one basis with VDOT officials and designers. Written comments can be submitted at the meeting or by Oct. 12 if postmarked and delivered to VDOT by this date. Written comments should be addressed to Mr. Charles Gardner, Virginia Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 2249, 811 Commerce Road, Staunton, VA 24402-2249. Oral comments can be recorded at the hearing with the assistance of a court reporter.
The project begins at Route 628 and extends .15 mile north of this location. The improvements include replacing the one-lane bridge over the South Fork of the Shenandoah River and another one-lane bridge over Oxbow. Additional improvements will include two 11-foot travel lanes in each direction. The road design will also feature five-foot shoulders and four-foot ditches.
The total estimated cost of the project is $4,843,912. This estimate includes $974,100 for preliminary engineering, $262,200 for right of way and utility costs and $3,607,612 for construction. Citizens should note the project is still in the early development stage and the estimates are subject to change. The project funding is from the U. S. Department of Agriculture/Federal Forest Highway Funds. A public hearing will be held at a future date and will feature detailed right of way information at that time.
