MAJOR ACCIDENT CLOSES I-81 NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND IN SHENANDOAH COUNTY
STAUNTON – A multiple vehicle accident involving tractor trailers and cars has closed Interstate 81 in Shenandoah County at mile maker 296, northbound and southbound. This location is near exit 296 at Route 55. It is reported by the Staunton Traffic Operation Center that the tractor trailers are on fire.
Motorists are being detoured using exit 291 at Route 651 near Toms Brook and at exit 302 at Route 627 at Middletown.
Also there is a single tractor trailer accident on I-81 northbound at mile marker 302. This is near exit 302 at Route 627 in Middletown in Frederick County. Crews are working to upright the trailer which is reported to be carrying melons. All northbound lanes are reported closed as work continues to upright the trailer.
At mile marker 316.6 in the northbound lane there are clean-up operations from an accident that occurred earlier today. This location is in the Winchester area between exit 315 at Route 7 and exit 317 at Route 11. Motorists should be aware of left lane and left shoulder closures in this area.
Significant delays should be expected in these accident areas.
