Southbound lanes remain closed due to multi-vehicle accident

STAUNTON – Both lanes are open on Interstate 81, northbound at mile marker 284.7 in Shenandoah County. Both southbound lanes remain closed due to a multi-vehicle accident, including three tractor trailers. A detour has been set up at Exit 291, southbound onto Route 11 and ends at exit 283, southbound onto I-81. Motorists may want to choose alternate routes.

Officials at the scene say the southbound lanes will remain closed for an extended period of time.

This location is between exit 291 at Route 651 (Toms Brook/Truck Stops) and exit 283 at Route 42 (Woodstock/Wal-Mart). Motorists should expect significant delays in this area.
