I-81 SOUTHBOUND LANES HAVE REOPENED IN HARRISONBURG AREA
STAUNTON – (1:30 p.m.) Both southbound lanes have reopened at an accident site on Interstate 81 near mile marker 242 in the Harrisonburg area. The northbound left shoulder and left lane remain closed.
A mid-morning traffic crash on I-81 near mile marker 242 has caused extended traffic back ups.
The crash involved a truck carrying milk and involved another vehicle. There is no estimate at this time when the northbound lanes will reopen.
The Virginia Department of Transportation Traffic Operations Center reports traffic backups of up to five miles in both the northbound lanes and the southbound lanes, although the southbound lanes are projected to have reduced delays in the near future, now that both of those lanes are open.
Motorists should expect significant delays when traveling through this area.
