ROAD CLOSURE ANNOUNCED FOR ROUTE 250 CRAB RUN BRIDGE PROJECT

STAUNTON – Route 250 will be closed as part of the Crab Run Bridge project in the McDowell area of Highland County during the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday, Oct. 26.  Beginning at midnight and ending at 2 a.m. the road will be closed.  For 5 to 10 minutes during each hour the road will be open to let waiting traffic pass through.

The project replaces the Crab Run Bridge, located between Route 645 and Route 654. The existing 24-foot wide, two-lane bridge will be replaced with a 47.7-foot wide, two-lane bridge. The wider new bridge will meet current design standards for wider shoulders. The wider shoulders and approaches will enhance driver safety in this area.

Construction of the new bridge will be on a slightly shifted alignment, allowing a staged construction process. The $1.8 million contract was awarded by to Orders Construction Co. Inc. of Saint Albans, W.Va. on April 21, 2011.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
