ROUTE 761 BRIDGE TO REOPEN IN CLARKE COUNTY
STAUNTON – The Route 761 (Old Charlestown Road) Bridge will reopen this afternoon at 5 p.m. The structure is located at the Clarke and Frederick County line from 3 miles west of Route 632 to 0.96 mile east of Route 666.
The 16-ton weight restriction remains posted at the bridge site and motorists are strongly encouraged to comply.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and contractor Lanford Brothers temporarily closed the low water structure on Dec. 19 in order to make necessary repairs to bridge piers. Flooding and overweight vehicles crossing the bridge were also a factor in the decision to close this section of Route 761.
The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
