TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF JUNE 27 – JULY 1, 2011

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Mile marker 18 to 24.5, westbound and eastbound – Median barrier construction installation project. Eastbound and westbound left lanes closed with temporary traffic shifts to left lane at various pipe crossings. Wide loads up to 11-feet in width can proceed through the eastbound and westbound work zone lane shifts. Eastbound shoulder closed from mile marker 18 to 20, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 60 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route F-205 (Irvine Farm Road) – Flagging operations for I-64 median barrier project work.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 617 (Jamison Mountain Road), Covington – Slope repairs.  Road closed June 13-14.  Repairs are from 0.77 miles south of Route 618 (Upper Rich Patch Road) to 0.84 mile north of Craig County line.

* Route 1101 (Winterberry Avenue) – Flagging operations for I-64 median barrier project work.

* Various roads – Mowing and patching, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mobile operation.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 220 (Rocky Ridge) – Pipe replacement. Single-lane traffic controlled by flaggers, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 220, southbound – Fence repair south of Hot Springs. Single lane traffic with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Mowing and patching. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 56, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Blasting will occur on June 29 at 12 p.m. The blasting locations will be on I-81 between mile-markers 195 to 202. Signs are posted in this area. Both northbound and southbound lanes will have a rolling mobile lane closure. Right southbound lane closure on June 27 from mile-marker 198.8 to 198.6 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Right northbound lane closure on June 28 from mile-marker 201.5 to 203 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Single lane closures for barrier work.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Mowing, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 670 (Spring Valley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buffalo Creek tributary at 0.50 miles north of Route 251 (Collierstown Road) to 3.00 miles south of Route 674 (Union Run Road). Road closed beginning June 13. Detours posted along with signs and barricades at bridge closure. Estimated completion is July 7.

* Various roads – Grading, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, litter pick-up and mowing. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 220 – Paving repairs and spot leveling, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

* Route 250 (McDowell area) – Shoulder repairs. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 250 – Bridge construction from .01 mile east of Route 645 to 0.14 mile west of Route 654.  Signal work at Route 654.  Single lane traffic begins on June 27 and ends on July 3.  Periodic flagger traffic control.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 614 – Plant mix repairs and spot leveling. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

Interstate 64

No lane closures reported.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 213 to 217, southbound – I-81 In-Place Pavement Recycling Project - paving. Mid-June to September, there will be nighttime single lane closures I-81 southbound between exit 217 and exit 213.

* (NEW) Northbound and south bound at Exit 222 – Bridges over Route 250 – Bridge work. Single lane closures Monday to Thursday 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Northbound and southbound at Exit 225 Bridge over Route 262 – Bridge repairs, single lane closure Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Completion is end of June.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) – Expect a lane shift and two-way flagging operations from Route 646 (Fadley Road) to Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) for truck crossings, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 11 (Greenville area) – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Route 250 – Shoulder work from County line and I-64.  Intermittent single lane closures.  Flagger traffic control.  Work is June 27 to 28, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Route 250 – Pipe cleaning.  Intermittent right-lane closures.

* (NEW) Route 250 (Fishersville area) – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 256 – Paving and shoulder grading, just east of Route 11, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 340 (Stuarts Draft area) – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 612 – Maintenance on bridge over Lewis Creek from 0.05 miles east of Route 790 to 0.29 miles west of Route 789. Possible single-lane traffic, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 613 (Glade Spring Road) – Bridge construction.  Road closed between Route 42 and Route 754 (Badger Road).  Work is June 29 to July 14.  Detour will be posted.

* Route 664 – Bridge work. Bridge over South River, 0.2 mile north of Route 632.  Single lane traffic weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Route 971 (Libscomb Road) – Patching.  Intermittent lane closures between Route 970 (Hall School Road) and Route 624 (Lyndhurst Road).  Work is June 13 to July 1 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Surface treatment. Traffic controlled by lane closures, pilot truck and flagmen. Weekdays, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81 

* Mile marker 237.51 to 263.9, northbound and southbound – Debris, mowing and sign repair work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Stone Spring Road – Erickson Avenue/Stone Spring Road Connector Project from Route 11 to Port Republic Road. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is spring 2013.

* Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Road widening project from 0.22 mile west of Route 704 (Boyers Road) to 0.02 mile east of Harrisonburg City limits. All lanes open to traffic but expect intermittent daytime single lane closures as construction work continues.

 

Secondary Roads 

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Waterline installation from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Harrisonburg City limits. Intermittent lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* Route 211, eastbound – Work on bridge over Pass Run, 4.60 miles west of the Rappahannock County line. Road reduced to single 11-foot lane, 24 hours-a-day beginning April 6. Estimated completion is mid July.

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 2.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, was permanently closed on May 23. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted. Estimated completion for cul-de-sac work is October 2011.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Weekdays, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 263.92 to 299, northbound and southbound – Shoulder widening and pavement marking work. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is late June.

* (NEW) Mile marker 269.1 northbound and southbound – Bridge work on bridge over North Fork of the Shenandoah River.  Single lane closure 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday to Thursday.  Left lane closure Monday and Tuesday night.

* Mile marker 263.9 to 298, northbound and southbound – Debris and litter removal, vegetation management, mowing, shoulder cleaning and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 275 to 283, northbound – Paving. Alternating lane closures, Sunday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is mid July.

* Mile marker 298 to 280 – Bridge repairs on various structures.  Single lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday to Friday.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 – Paving. Route 55 to I-81, Monday to Friday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Flagger traffic control.  Estimated completion is end of June.

* Route 11 – Bridge repairs, Mill Creek Bridge.  Single lane traffic 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with possible sidewalk closures.  Work is Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Route 11 (Maurertown area) – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 678 – Bridge deck replacement located .03 miles north of Route 774.  Intermittent lane closures and shoulder closures.  Beginning June 27 there will be single lane closures 24-hours a day. Temporary signals will control traffic. Completion is mid-August.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Various roads – Scraping, patching, pipe cleaning and shoulder work.

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 299 to 324.21 northbound and southbound – Shoulder widening and pavement marking work. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is late June.

* Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, mowing and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 318 to 324 – Pavement repairs, Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Alternating lane closures. Completion is late June.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 50 (Northwest Pike) westbound in Roundhill area – Turn lane installation.  Work is from Route 803 (Round Hill Road) to Route 654 (Poorhouse Road), Width restriction of 12 feet from June 27 at 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.  Estimated completion is late July.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Surface treatment. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion is late June. Estimated completion is late June.

* (NEW) Various roads – Patching, shoulder work, mowing, pipe cleaning and brush cutting.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 7 – Shoulder work in Berryville area.

* (NEW) Route 50 – Bridge sweeping in Berryville area.

* Route 50 – Paving from Frederick County line to Route 340. Alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion is late June.

* (NEW) Route 50 – Sinkhole repairs located 0.2 mile north of Route 750 beginning on June 27 at 7 a.m.  Repairs expected to last three days.  Right lane closure from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. or later daily.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting.

 

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66

* Mile marker 0 to 13, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, ditching and sign repair k. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 6, eastbound and westbound  – Bridge painting over Crooked Run. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Lane closures when necessary. Estimated completion is late June.

* Mile marker 14.83 to 10.59, westbound – Paving. Alternating lane closures, Monday night to Thursday morning, 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Estimated completion is end of June.

* Mile marker 10.59 to 14.66, eastbound – Paving. Alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated completion is end of June.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 298 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 340/522 – Alignment of Route 658 (Rockland Road) at Route 340/522. Construction will include additional turn lanes and traffic signals. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Blasting operations with flagger traffic control, weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion is summer 2012.

* Route 522 – Slide repair at Route 604 (Harmony Hollow Road). Lane closures, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. Shoulder closures 24 hours-a-day beginning March 14. Estimated completion is late July.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 619 – Bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River.  Bridge deck work.  Bridge located 0.15 mile west of Route 340. Single lane closures Monday night to Friday Morning from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.

* Route 1026 (Happy Creek Road) Front Royal area – Road improvement project from Sixth Street and Bradford Drive to near Route 606 (Shenandoah Shores Road). A portion of Happy Creek Road will be restricted to single-lane traffic controlled by temporary signals to facilitate excavation work. The location of the signals will be 430-feet west of Meadow Lane to approximately 280-feet east of Wakeland Court. The signals will control traffic 24-hours-a-day. Meadow Lane will be closed from Happy Creek Road to Stuart Drive. Wakeland Court should be used for access.

* (NEW) Various roads – Scraping, pipe cleaning and brush cutting.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

 

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
