TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12-16, 2011

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and cleaning under guardrail. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 18 to 24.5, westbound and eastbound – Median barrier construction installation project. Eastbound and westbound left lane closures with right shoulder closures at various locations. Wide loads up to 11-feet in width can proceed through the work zones. Work zone and traffic pattern changes may occur late in the week.

 

Primary Roads 

* Main Street (Route 60, Clifton Forge) – Smith Creek Bridge replacement project – Traffic signal work from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15 at West Ridgeway Street (Route 60/220) and Commercial Avenue. This work will take place Monday to Thursday each week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should be alert for shoulder closures on Commercial Avenue and on Business Route 60/220, which will limit parking. Main Street, westbound from the intersection of Ridgeway Street to Commercial Avenue will be closed September 8, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Westbound traffic will detour onto Ridgeway Street. Ridgway Street, eastbound and westbound, will have two-way traffic during this time.

Bridge construction will occur from September 19, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Main Street closed between Route 60/220 and Commercial Avenue. Detour signs through the area using Business Route 60 and West Ridgeway Street.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 608 (Wolfe Road) – Pipe work, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

* (NEW) Various Roads – Patching and tree debris removal.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 39 – Pipe culvert rehabilitation from 0.9 miles east of the West Virginia state line to 1.10 miles west of Route 601. Shoulder closure and possible single-lane closure, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

* (NEW) Route 220 – Ditch cleaning at various secondary road locations.  Single lane closures with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Pipe replacement and patching. Flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and guardrail repair, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 56.8, eastbound – Bridge work, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is Oct. 31.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173.9 to 205.1, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, guardrail work and cleaning guardrail area. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 175 to 192, northbound and southbound – Bridge maintenance on various structures. Single-lane closures, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Mile marker 181.7 to 181.9, southbound – Drilling boreholes. Single-lane closed, Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

* Mile marker 191.5, northbound and southbound – At I-81 and I-64 interchange. Bridge work. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is Oct. 31.

* (NEW) Mile marker 198.6 to 198.8, northbound – Truck climbing lane project. Single lane closures on Sept. 13, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Sept. 14, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Left lane closed for guardrail installation and barrier removal.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 39 – Repair work on bridge over Maury River at Rockbridge Baths. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday to Thursday. Flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is Sept. 23.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 602 (Walkers Creek Road) – Bridge work at 0.05 miles south of Route 724 (Jump Mountain Road) and 1.15 miles west of Route 731 (Dutch Hollow Road). Single-lane closure, Aug. 18 to Sept. 22.

* (NEW) Route 626 (Hackens Road) – Brush cutting, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Flagger traffic control.

* (NEW) Route 627 (Sycamore Valley Road) – Brush cutting, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Flagger traffic control.

* Route 651 (Honey Hollow Road) – Rural rustic paving project and culvert replacement, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

* Route 697 (Amole Hollow Road) – Bridge replacement from 0.05 mile south of Route 699 (Wesley Chapel Road) to the dead end. Road closed, Aug. 16 to Sept. 8. Single-lane traffic detour in place. Traffic controlled with a stop and proceed sign.

* (NEW) Route 755 (Dug Row Road) – Brush cutting, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Flagger traffic control.

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing, debris removal, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 220, southbound – Pipe repairs, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

* Route 250 – Replacement of bridge over Crab Run in McDowell, from 0.01 mile east of Route 645 to 0.014 miles west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road). Single-lane traffic with 14-foot width restriction and three-way traffic signal at Route 250 and intersection of Route 654. Flagger traffic control at various locations when needed. Estimated completion is October 2012.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 600 U – Brush control from Route 84 to 7-miles in. Krenite S application will occur Sept. 12 to 23.

* Route 614 (Cowpasture Road) – Pipe replacement and chip seal 1.00 mile north of Route 619 (Botkin Hollow Road). Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 615 – Brush control from Route 678 to Route 250. Krenite S application will occur Sept. 12 to 23.

* Route 615 (Davis Run Road) – Rural rustic project. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 618 – Brush control from Route 614 to dead end. Krenite S application will occur Sept. 12 to 23.

* Route 619 (Botkin Hollow Road) – Rural rustic project. Flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 654 (Doe Hill Road) – Bridge work at 0.04 miles north of Route 624 (Jack Mountain Road). Road reduced to one 10-foot lane, 24 hours-a-day. Traffic controlled by temporary signals. Estimated completion is mid December.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 87.7 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Litter and debris removal, mowing, cleaning drop inlets, sweeping bridges and sign work. Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Mile marker 87 to 135, eastbound and westbound – Sept. 12-16, Bridge sweeping.  Mobile left-lane closure.

* (NEW) Mile marker 100, eastbound and westbound – Sept. 12-17, Mowing.  Mobile left-lane closures.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris and tree removal. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 205.58 to 209.85, southbound – Paving work. Paving complete. Installation of rumble strips, pavement markers and guardrail will require a lane closure, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion of miscellaneous activities is Oct. 16.

* Mile marker 209 to 228, northbound and southbound – Bridge deck maintenance on various structures. Single-lane closures, Tuesday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Mile marker 210.4 to 210.7 – Repair of bridges over Route 675. Lane closures, Monday night to Thursday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is Sept. 16.

* Mile marker 212.2 to 211.9 – Repair bridges over Route 662. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is Sept. 30.

* Mile marker 213 to 217, southbound – I-81 In-Place Pavement Recycling Project - paving. Mid-June to September, there will be nighttime single-lane closures I-81 southbound between exit 217 and exit 213, Sunday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. Under-drain installation and asphalt placement will occur from mile marker 218 to 214, southbound. Alternating lane and shoulder closures, Sunday night to Friday morning, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion of under-drain and asphalt work is Sept. 30.

* Mile marker 219.3 to 219.6, northbound and southbound – Repair of bridges over Folly Mills Creek. Lane closure, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Possible shoulder closures, Monday to Thursday. Estimated completion is Sept. 16.

* (NEW) Mile marker 222 to 223, northbound and southbound – Bridge inspection on Bridge over CSX Railroad and access road.  Work is Sept. 19 from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m., northbound.  Also 12 a.m. to 3:30 a.m., southbound.  Single lane closures.

* Exit 222, northbound and southbound – Repair of bridges over Route 250. Lane closures, Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is Sept. 16.

* (NEW) Mile marker 225 to 226 northbound and southbound – Bridge inspection on Bridge over Woodrow Wilson Parkway.  Work is Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., northbound and 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. southbound. Single lane closures.

* (NEW) Exit 227 – Bridge work on Route 612 bridge. I-81 single lane closures, Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion is Oct. 1

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) – Expect a lane shift and two-way flagging operations from Route 646 (Fadley Road) to Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) for truck crossings, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 250 – Shoulder work from Waynesboro City Limits to I-64.  Eastbound and westbound single intermittent lane closures.  Flagger traffic control and pilot truck.  Work is Sept. 13 and Sept. 14, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 256 – Paving and shoulder grading, just east of Route 11, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 608 in Stuarts Draft area – Paving, Tuesday and Wednesday.

* (NEW) Route 612 – Bridge work on Lewis Creek Bridge, just east of Route 790. Single lane traffic 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.

* Route 642 (Mule Academy Road) – Paving from Route 285 (Tinkling Springs Road) to Route 250 (Jefferson Highway). Road closed, Monday. Local traffic can enter from the Route 285 intersection. Thursday, shoulder work.

* Route 652 (University Farm Road) – Roadway upgrades from Route 340 to Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road). Intermittent lane closures. Estimated completion is Sept. 16.

* (NEW) Route 656 – Bridge work on Bridge over South River just south of Route 657.  Single lane closures, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.

* Route 716 – Road reconstruction, widening and pipe installation from Route 629 to Route 250. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion is early October.

* Route 753 (Slate Hill Road) – Bridge replacement from Route 732 (Roman Road) to Route 752 (Naked Creek Road). Road closed, Sept. 12 to 28. Detour posted.

* Route 862 (Furnace Road) – Roadway upgrades and rural rustic work from Route 601 (Estaline Valley Road) and end of state maintenance. Intermittent lane closures.

* Route 1204 (Blacksmith Shop Road) – Roadway upgrades. Intermittent lane closures, Sept. 6-16.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81 

* Mile marker 237.51 to 263.9, northbound and southbound – Debris and litter removal. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 238 to 248, northbound and southbound – Bridge deck maintenance on various structures. Single-lane closures, Monday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Mile marker 244.5 to 236.9, southbound – Installation of pavement markers. Left lane closed, Tuesday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Route 259 (Brocks Gap Road), eastbound and westbound – Stone shoulder work from 0.50 miles east of Route 921 (Lairs Run Road) to 0.10 miles west of Route 921 and 0.70 miles west of Route 612 (Runions Road). Single-lane traffic. Work zone lane closures active daily, 7a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic controlled by signs, flaggers and pilot truck.

 

Secondary Roads 

* Stone Spring Road – Erickson Avenue/Stone Spring Road Connector Project from Route 11 to Port Republic Road. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is spring 2013.

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Waterline installation from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Harrisonburg City limits. Intermittent lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 782 (Williamsburg Road) – Pipe installation from 0.02 miles west of Route 42 (Harpine Highway) and Route 617 (South Sunset Drive). Road closed, Monday and Tuesday.

* Route 865 (Gravels Road) – Dominion Virginia Power line installation. Work is from Route 753 (Kratzer Road) to Route 720 (Irish Path). Intermittent single lane closures with flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is Oct. 31.

* Route 1417 (East Avenue) – Gas line installation. Intermittent lane closures.

 * Route 1418 (Second Street) – Gas line installation. Intermittent lane closures.

* Route 1421 (Springbrook Road) – Bridge work from Route 42 (Harpine Highway) to Route 1415 (Early Road). Intermittent lane and bridge closures. Work estimated to begin on July 18.

* Route 1424 (Lindsey Avenue) – Gas line installation. Intermittent lane closures.

* Route 1432 (Fifth Street) – Gas line installation. Intermittent lane closures.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* (NEW) Route 211 – Paving, Sept. 12 and Sept. 13, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Ranger Station to Route 611.

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 2.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Bridge cleaning, litter and debris removal. Single-lane traffic, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic controlled by message boards.

* Route 616 – Paving, line painting and shoulder work from Route 639 to Route 646, Sept. 8 and 9, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot truck.

* (NEW) Route 633 – Paving From Route 616 to half-mile east of Route 616.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, was permanently closed on May 23. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted. Estimated completion for cul-de-sac work is October 2011.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 759 – Pipe work, 1.5 miles east of Route 607.  Shoulder closure and single lane closure Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Flagger traffic control.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 263.9 to 298, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, sign work, ditch cleaning, shoulder cleaning, shoulder repair, guardrail repair and brush cutting. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 42 – Paving from Route 263 to Route 291.  Flagger traffic control, Tuesday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Estimated completion is Sept. 16.

* (NEW) Route 714 (Turkey Run Road) – Pipe work from 2.28 mile south of Route 55 to Route 621.  Road closed beginning on Sept. 7 at 8 a.m.  Estimated completion is late September.

* Route 522, northbound and southbound – Asphalt overlay from Route 644 to the Route 17/50/522 interchange. Alternating lane closures with flagger traffic control, Sunday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is Sept. 23.

* Route 603 (Castleman Road) – Bridge deck replacement from 0.80 miles north of Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) to 2.50 miles east of Route 612 (Shepherds Mill Road). Road closed beginning Aug. 22 at 7 a.m. Suggested detour:  Northbound traffic use Route 7 west to route 612 north to Route 603 east. Southbound traffic use Route 612 south to Route 7 east to Route 603 north. Estimated completion is mid September.

* Various roads – Bridge cleaning, litter and debris removal. Single-lane traffic, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic controlled by message boards.

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66

* Mile marker 0 to 13, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, guardrail repair and ditch cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 6-8 westbound – Bridge inspection on bridges over Norfolk Southern Railroad, Shenandoah River and Crooked Run.  Work is Sept. 14, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Single lane closures.

* (NEW) Mile marker 6-8 eastbound and westbound – Bridge inspection on bridges over Norfolk Southern Railroad, Shenandoah River and Crooked Run.  Work is Sept. 15, 9 a.m. to noon westbound and noon to 3:30 p.m. eastbound. Single lane closures.

* (NEW) Mile marker 6-8 eastbound – Bridge inspection on bridges over Norfolk Southern Railroad, Shenandoah River and Crooked Run.  Work is Sept. 16, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Single lane closures.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 298 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Route 340/522 – Alignment of Route 658 (Rockland Road) at Route 340/522. Construction will include additional turn lanes and traffic signals. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Blasting operations with flagger traffic control, weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion is summer 2012.

* Various roads – Bridge cleaning, litter and debris removal. Single-lane traffic, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic controlled by message boards.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 1026 (Happy Creek Road) Front Royal area – Road improvement project from Sixth Street and Bradford Drive to near Route 606 (Shenandoah Shores Road). Motorists should expect daily lane closures. Meadow Lane will be closed from Happy Creek Road to Stuart Drive. Wakeland Court should be used for access.

* Various roads – Bridge cleaning, litter and debris removal. Single-lane traffic, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic controlled by message boards.

* Various roads – Pipe replacement and mowing.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

 

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
