I-81 REOPENED AT EXIT 175 IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY
Route 11 bridge remains closed due to tractor-trailer crash

STAUNTON –  Both lanes of Interstate 81 northbound have reopened at Exit 175 in Rockbridge County. The road was closed early this morning after a crash involving a tractor-trailer that struck the Route 11 bridge over the interstate.

The right shoulder of northbound I-81 remains closed, as well as the Route 11 bridge over I-81 and the exit ramps at Exit 175. The Virginia Department of Transportation has bridge inspectors engaged in an inspection of the structure to determine the extent of the damage and whether it is safe to reopen the bridge. Those closures will remain for an undetermined period of time.

Motorists traveling on I-81 in the area this morning should be aware of signs directing them through the incident area. They may also encounter brief delays.

For the latest updates to the I-81 incident check VDOT’s traffic and travel Web site, www.511Virginia.org. The site has real-time road conditions and weather forecasts as well as live traffic camera images for many major highways, including Interstate 81, Interstate 64 and some primary roads in the Shenandoah Valley.

Motorists can call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for road and traffic conditions on all major highways in the state. Call 800-367-ROAD (367-7623) 24 hours a day to report highway-related problems or request information about Virginia’s highways.
