TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 13-17, 2012

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and guardrail work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 21, eastbound and westbound – Repairs on Route 696 Bridge over I-64. Left lanes closed, 7 a.m., Monday to 6 p.m., Thursday. Estimated completion is Feb. 17.

 

Primary Roads 

* Main Street (Route 60, Clifton Forge) – Smith Creek Bridge replacement project – Main Street, westbound from the intersection of Ridgeway Street to Commercial Avenue will be closed September 8, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Westbound traffic will detour onto Ridgeway Street. Ridgway Street, eastbound and westbound, will have two-way traffic during this time. Bridge construction will occur from September 19, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Main Street closed between Route 60/220 and Commercial Avenue. Detour signs through the area using Business Route 60 and West Ridgeway Street.

* (NEW) Route 311 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Shoulder repair, bridge sweeping and ditching. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads – Pothole repairs, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, pipe installation, bridge sweeping and ditching. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Various roads – Pothole repairs, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mobile traffic control.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Brush cutting and pipe cleaning. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 57 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and guardrail work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 175, northbound and southbound – Ramp work on shoulder, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 195.6 to 202.5, northbound – Truck climbing lane project. There are no lane closures on I-81 for the truck climbing lane project this week.

* Mile marker 205, northbound and southbound – Ramp work on shoulder, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 39 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Various roads – Litter pickup. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Litter pickup, ditching, shoulder repairs, brush cutting, pothole repairs and grading. Flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 250 – Replacement of bridge over Crab Run in McDowell, from 0.01 mile east of Route 645 to 0.014 miles west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road). Single-lane traffic with 14-foot width restriction and three-way traffic signal at Route 250 and intersection of Route 654. Flagger traffic control at various locations when needed. Work may take place 24 hours-a-day. Estimated completion is October 2012.

* (NEW) Various roads – Grading, pothole repairs, brush cutting and stone work. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

Interstate 64

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, turf repair and guardrail work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 235, northbound and southbound – New traffic signals installed at exit ramps intersecting with Route 256. Signals go into flash mode on Feb. 9, and will go into full operational mode on Feb. 14.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) – Expect a lane shift and two-way flagging operations from Route 646 (Fadley Road) to Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) for truck crossings, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 250, eastbound – Retaining wall excavation at the intersection of Old White Bridge Road and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road). Wednesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Pole and wire installation, intermittent single-lane closure, from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 2003 (Wayside Drive).

* Route 256 – Paving and shoulder grading, just east of Route 11, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

*Route 256 – Shoulder closures from Route 276 (Keezletown Road) to Route 847 (Valley Church Road).

* Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Guardrail installation, single lane and shoulder closures, from I-81 to Route 11. Flagger traffic control. Work is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) – Water line installation at the intersection of Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) and Westport Run. Single-lane traffic, Monday to Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flagger traffic control.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81 

* Mile marker 237.51 to 263.9, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ramp delineator installation and guardrail work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 340 – Shoulder closure from Route 649 (Island Ford Road) to Route 642 (Captain Yancey Road) for railroad crossing repairs. Estimated completion is March 31. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph.

 

Secondary Roads 

* Stone Spring Road – Erickson Avenue/Stone Spring Road Connector Project from Route 11 to Port Republic Road. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is spring 2013.

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Waterline installation from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Harrisonburg City limits. Intermittent lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.

* Route 753 (Kratzer Road) – Pole installation, intermittent lane closures from Route 908 (Pulses Hill Road) to Route 865 (Gravels Road).

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.4 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

* Route 340 – Compton Creek Bridge located 0.13 mile north of Route 686. Bridge deck work. Single lane closures, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, was permanently closed on May 23. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 263.9 to 298, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ramp work, sign and drainage asset inspections. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting, ditching, scraping, shoulder work and pipe installation.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and delineator work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 313 to 315, northbound and southbound – In conjunction with Senseny Road Bridge deck replacement work. Shoulder closures and intermittent nighttime lane closures beginning Feb. 20 for installation of barrier for shoulder closures. Estimated completion is mid-August 2012.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 657 (Senseny Road, Winchester) – Deck replacement work on bridge over I-81 from Millwood Pike (Route 522/50/17) and Berryville Pike (Route 7). Single-lane traffic with 10.5-foot width restriction, controlled by temporary signals. Work begins the week of Feb. 27. Estimated completion is mid-August 2012.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66

* Mile marker 1 to 13, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and delineator work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 298 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 340/522 – Alignment of Route 658 (Rockland Road) at Route 340/522. Construction will include additional turn lanes and traffic signals. Lane and shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Blasting operations with flagger traffic control, weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Traffic switch to the new Rockland Road will take place Feb. 7 at 9 a.m. Traffic traveling northbound on 340/522 will be able to turn right at the light onto the newly constructed Rockland Road. Traffic traveling southbound on 340/522 will be able to turn left at the light onto the newly constructed Rockland Road. Estimated completion is summer 2012.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads – Shoulder work, grading and brush cutting.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

 

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
