TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF OCTOBER 8-12, 2012
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and clean ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 7.3 to 16.5, eastbound and westbound – Median Guardrail Installation Project. Single-lane traffic and shoulder closures, Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion is Nov. 30.

* Mile marker 40.5, eastbound – Slope repair. Eastbound right lane closures, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is Oct. 26.

 

Primary Roads 

* Main Street (Route 60, Clifton Forge) – Smith Creek Bridge replacement project – Main Street, westbound from the intersection of Ridgeway Street to Commercial Avenue will be closed September 8, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Westbound traffic will detour onto Ridgeway Street. Ridgway Street, eastbound and westbound, will have two-way traffic during this time. Bridge construction will occur from September 19, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Main Street closed between Route 60/220 and Commercial Avenue. Detour signs through the area using Business Route 60 and West Ridgeway Street.

* Various roads – Pot hole repairs, shoulder repairs and drainage repairs, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 633 – Replacement of Cowpasture River Bridge and approaches from 1.46 miles south of Route 634 to 1.14 miles south of Route 634. Be alert for flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 17, 2013.

* Various roads – Patching, pothole repairs, shoulder repairs, pipe replacement and drainage repairs. Flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 57 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and ditch cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch cleaning and rock removal from shoulders. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 195.6 to 202.5, northbound – Truck climbing lane project. Northbound left lane closures from mile markers 195 to 202 on Oct. 9, 10 and 11, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night for moving barrier.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 – Fiber optic cable installation work. Boring at the intersection of Route 11 to Route 39 to I-81 Estimated completion is early Nov.

* Route 11 - Utility project at Route 763 (Lincoln Road). Install water transmission line on northwest shoulder of Route 763 for 0.60 mile to the intersection of Route 11. Installation will continue on the east should of Route 11 northbound for 1.23 miles. Work includes boring at the intersection of Route 763 and across all lanes of Route 11 to the west shoulder of the southbound lanes. Estimated completion is November.

* Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Route 39 – Fiber optic cable installation work. Laying cable on shoulder from Route 11 to the Virginia Horse Center. Shoulder closures and occasional lane closures will occur weekdays. Estimated completion is Nov. 30.

* Route 39 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 60, eastbound – Fiber optic cable installation in the northern shoulder of Route 60 from the Lexington City limits to I-81 and along Route 60 to Route 608 (Forge Road). Shoulder closures and occasional lane closures will occur weekdays. Estimated completion is Nov. 30.

* Various roads – Mowing, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Ditching, grading, patching, pipe replacement, tree removal, laying asphalt, brush cutting, pipe cleaning, litter pick-up, pothole patching and mowing. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 250 – Replacement of bridge over Crab Run in McDowell, from 0.01 mile east of Route 645 to 0.014 miles west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road). Single-lane traffic with 14-foot width restriction and three-way traffic signal at Route 250 and intersection of Route 654. Flagger traffic control at various locations when needed. Work may take place 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 25 mph. Estimated completion is October.

* Various roads – Mowing and weed-eating, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 614 (Cowpasture Road, North) – Spot leveling. Flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 638 (Mill Lane) – Ditch repairs, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 640 (Blue Grass Valley Road) – Ditch repairs, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 642 (Blue Grass Valley Road) – Paving. Flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 678 (Bullpasture River Road) – Spot leveling. Flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Various roads – Grading and ditch repairs. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 96.77 to 86.97, westbound – Shoulder paving and guardrail placement. Right shoulder closure. Milling, paving and striping with single lane closure, weeknights, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

* Mile marker 97.1 to 106.4, eastbound and westbound – Afton Mountain Guardrail Project. Guardrail replacement and installation. Right shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch cleaning, shoulder work Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 340 – Waynesboro, Delphine Avenue Project. Water line work and storm drain work and sidewalk work. Sidewalk work is along Fourth Street. Fourth Street has reopened and Fifth Street is now closed. Be alert for lane closures and flagger traffic control. Work is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81 

* Mile marker 237.51 to 263.9, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, brush cutting and fence repair. Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 254.03 to 257.92, northbound – Guardrail work. Single lane closure and shoulder closure. Rumble strip installation, Wednesday night 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Guardrail work, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11, northbound – Bridge work on the bridge over Cooks Creek just north of the intersection with Route 257 near Bridgewater. Beginning Sept. 24, lane closures with a traffic barrier will be in place 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. Traffic reduced to a single 12-foot lane with a 14-foot clear width between the barrier. Estimated completion is late December.

* (NEW) Route 11 – Roadwork from Harrisonburg City limits to 0.3-mile north of Route 704.  Flagger traffic control, weeknights, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* (NEW) Route 33, westbound – Construction from Route 602 to Route 644. Shoulder closures and possible lane closures, weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Route 33 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 33, westbound (Rawley Pike) – Waterline installation at intersection of Route 726. Shoulder closed, weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 211 – Milling, paving and marking from Route 42 to the Shenandoah County line. Single lane closure, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Turn lane and commercial entrance permit work from Harrisonburg City limits to Route 726 (Stone Spring Road). Work zone will have shoulder closures and intermittent right-lane closures.

* (NEW) Route 256 – Milling and paving from Route 11 to 0.9-mile east of Route 11. Flagger traffic control, Sunday and weeknights, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads 

* Stone Spring Road – Erickson Avenue/Stone Spring Road Connector Project from Route 11 to Port Republic Road. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is spring 2013.

* Route 609 (Naked Creek Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 (Fleeburg Road, Page County) and Route 609. Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On May 22, the traffic pattern will shift from the existing bridge on Route 603 to a temporary bridge during construction of the permanent structure. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Waterline installation from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Harrisonburg City limits. Intermittent lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.

* Route 1421 (Springbrook Road, Town of Broadway) – Replacement of bridge over Linville Creek from 0.275 miles west of Route 42 (South Main Street) to Route 42. Signalization upgrade at intersection of Route 42. Possible single lane closures controlled by flaggers Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion is April 30, 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* (UPDATE) Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.4 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. A new traffic pattern has been established on a portion of the newly constructed Route 340 alignment, beginning 2.95 miles south of the Page/Warren County line and extending to 2.70 miles south of the Page/Warren County line. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 603 (Fleeburg Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 and Route 609 (Naked Creek Road). Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, was permanently closed on May 23. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 313 to 315, northbound and southbound – In conjunction with the Route 657/Senseny Road Bridge deck replacement work. Shoulder closures and intermittent nighttime lane closures beginning Feb. 20 for installation of barrier for shoulder closures. Estimated completion is mid October.

* Mile marker 313.31 to 310.12, southbound – Guardrail work. Alternating lane closures, Sunday night to Thursday morning, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Nov. 1.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11, southbound – Relocation of utilities and installation of right turn lane from the Route 37 southbound off-ramp to Route 1090. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Work is from Aug. 23 to Oct. 19.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 657 (Senseny Road, Winchester) – Deck replacement work on bridge over I-81 from Millwood Pike (Route 522/50/17) and Berryville Pike (Route 7). Intermittent single-lane traffic controlled by flaggers. Estimated completion is mid October.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY
