ACCIDENT CLOSES ROUTE 33 IN ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

STAUNTON (1:55 P.M.) – The Virginia Department of Transportation has closed Route 33 (Rawley Pike) in Rockingham County due to an accident at the intersection of Route 733 (Dale Enterprise Road) just west of Harrisonburg. Detours are in place.

 

The accident took place just before 1 p.m., and involved a vehicle that struck a utility pole.  Power lines are down in the area, and both directions of Route 33 are expected to remain closed for several hours.

 

Westbound drivers will be detoured onto Route 701 north, Route 726 west and Route 613 south back to Route 33. Eastbound traffic will detour onto Route 613 north, Route 726 east and Route 701 south back to Route 33.

 

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
