I-81 AT HARRISONBURG CLOSED DUE TO TRACTOR TRAILER ACCIDENT
Northbound and Southbound Shut Down

STAUNTON (7:28 a.m.) – A tractor trailer accident has closed the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 81 at Harrisonburg.

The accident took place shortly before 7 a.m. on I-81 northbound at mile marker 245 just south of the Port Republic Road exit. The interstate is closed both directions because of a vehicle fire.

Northbound traffic is using an alternate route by taking exit 243 (Pleasant Valley Road) to Route 11, then rejoining the interstate at exit 245 (Port Republic Road). Southbound traffic can take exit 245 and follow Route 11 south to exit 243.

Motorists on I-81 and Route 11 can expect significant delays. There is no estimate for reopening the interstate.
