TRACTOR TRAILER ACCIDENT CLOSES SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 81 NEAR STAUNTON

STAUNTON (1:27 P.M.) – A tractor trailer accident has shut down southbound Interstate 81 at mile marker 223 near Staunton. Both southbound lanes are expected to be closed for at least an hour while crews remove the wreckage and clean up debris.

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Staunton Traffic Operations Center reported at 11:22 a.m. that a tractor trailer carrying food products in glass bottles overturned near the off-ramp to Route 250. The truck is on its side and blocking both southbound lanes. Traffic is backed up about five miles.

Southbound traffic is being detoured at exit 225 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway), where it will follow Route 262 south and rejoin the interstate at exit 220.
