TRAFFIC ALERT FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 18 - FEBRUARY 22, 2013
Highway work zones in the Staunton District

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and clean ditches, shoulders and median. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads 

* (NEW) Route 269 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, brush cutting and pothole patching with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 617 – Road closed for widening and safety improvements. Estimated completion is May 2013.   

* Route 633 – Replacement of Cowpasture River bridge and approaches from 1.46 miles south of Route 634 to 1.14 miles south of Route 634. Be alert for flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 17, 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Bridge over Jackson River closed until further notice for repairs. This location is 0.1-mile west from Route 687 (Jackson River Road) to 0.6-mile east from Route 666 (Morris Hill Road). Motorists can use the following routes for a detour:  Route 687 to Route 641 (Indian Draft Road) to Route 666. Expected completion is mid-March, weather permitting.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, brush cutting, pothole patching. Flagger traffic control as needed, Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder and pothole repairs. Flagger traffic control as needed, Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (UPDATE) Various roads - Brush cutting and pothole repairs. Flagger traffic control. Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and ditch, shoulder and median cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 173 to 185, northbound and southbound - Brush cutting with shoulder closures during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 173 to 205.5, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and ditch, shoulder and median cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 190 to 191, northbound single lane closure.  I-81 bridge inspection over Maury River. February 18, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

*( NEW) Mile marker 195 to 200 – Truck climbing lane project. Lane closures and detours previously scheduled for February 14 to 17 have been cancelled due to weather concerns, but will be rescheduled in the near future. Please check www.511Virginia.org for the latest update on closures.


Primary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 39 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Tuesday to Friday.

* Route 60 (East Nelson Street, City of Lexington) - Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is December 2013. 

* (NEW) Route 130 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Tuesday to Friday.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Trash pick-up. Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 11 – Fiber optic cable work continues north toward Fairfield and between Maury River and I-64.  Estimated completion end of April.

* Route 608, south end of Forge Road – fiber optic cable work continues into Natural Bridge and Glasgow.

* Route 763 (Lincoln Road) at Route 11. Utility project. Install water transmission line on northwest shoulder of Route 763 for 0.60 mile to the intersection of Route 11. Installation will continue on the east shoulder of Route 11 northbound for 1.23 miles. Crossovers may be closed as work progresses. Estimated completion is February 2013. 

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Grading, shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, pipe replacement and brush cutting. Flagger traffic control as needed, Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 250 – Shoulder repairs and brush cutting at various locations with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 678 – Shoulder closure February 18 to March 8 for shoulder improvement project, 1.37 miles south from Route 615 and 1.93 north miles to Route 612. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with flagger traffic control.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Pothole repairs with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

Interstate 64

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 88 to 89, westbound single lane closure over Christians Creek.  I-81 bridge inspection. February 18, 7 p.m. to 12 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 90 to 95, eastbound and westbound. Right lane closures for new sign installation, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Estimated completion February 22.


Interstate 81

* Mile marker 195 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch, shoulder and median cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 220 to 221 at Route 262 bridge over I-81, northbound and southbound single lane closure. Bridge inspection. February 21, 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville), northbound and southbound – Sewer construction. Shoulder closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Estimated completion is November 30, 2013.

* Route 340 at Route 654 in Stuart Draft – Traffic Signal Replacement. Estimated completion March 2013.

* Route 340 – Waynesboro, Delphine Avenue Project. Installation of sanitary line and waterline at various locations on Delphine Ave., with retaining wall placement along Delphine Ave. to 4th Street. Be alert for lane closures and flagger traffic control. Work is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads - Tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81 

* (NEW) Mile marker 237 to 247, northbound and southbound – Repair on-ramp signs, Monday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 245 to 251 southbound – Cut trees and repair fences. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

 Primary Roads

* Route 42 (John Wayland Highway) – Slope repair. Shoulder closure and intermittent lane closures controlled by flaggers between Route 257 (Main Street, Dayton) and Route 746 (Herring Drive). Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 257- Left and right lane closures from 1.05 miles north of Route 604 to 0 miles west of Dayton West. Guardrail removal and replacement. February 18 to February 22, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 *Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


Secondary Roads 

* Route 609 (Naked Creek Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 (Fleeburg Road, Page County) and Route 609. Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades beginning February 11. Intermittent lane closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.

* Route 1421 (Springbrook Road, Town of Broadway) – Road closed over Linville Creek for bridge construction Jan. 21 to March 18, and signal upgrade at Route 42. The closure will be between South Main Street (Route 42) and Early Drive (Route 1415). Watch for detour signage. Estimated completion is April 30, 2013.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.40 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Motorists should use extreme caution and obey posted speed limit. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 603 (Fleeburg Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 and Route 609 (Naked Creek Road, Rockingham County). Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 273 to 283, northbound and southbound – Sign and ramp maintenance. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

* (NEW) Mile marker 279 to 283, northbound and southbound – Cut trees off fences. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 289 to 291, northbound and southbound – Cut trees and repair fences, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Routes 11/55/1203 in Strasburg. Traffic signal replacement. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 11 at Route 1974 (Holiday Street) in Strasburg. Traffic signal replacement. Estimated completion is April 2013.
 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 302 to 306, northbound and southbound. Right lane closures for new sign installation, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Estimated completion February 22.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 302 to 324, northbound and southbound – Sign repair on- and off-ramps. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  

* (NEW) Mile marker 310 to 315, northbound and southbound – Debris pickup on- and off-ramps and sign repair. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  

* Mile marker 317, northbound – Extend deceleration lane. Night time lane closures, Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and daytime shoulder closures. Estimated completion is November 2013.

* Route 7 Business (West Main Street) – Mosby Boulevard Project. Construction of Route 636/Mosby Boulevard extension. Mosby Boulevard now open. Work continues on the project in other areas Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is May 2013.
