I-66 WESTBOUND TO REMAIN CLOSED IN WARREN COUNTY UNTIL MID-AFTERNOON

STAUNTON – (11:25 a.m.) The Virginia Department of Transportation estimates that the westbound lanes of Interstate 66 in Warren County should reopen around 2 p.m. today. Crews are cleaning up from an early-morning accident involving a gasoline tanker near mile marker 11.

A detour has been established for all traffic on westbound I-66. Drivers are being directed off the interstate at exit 23 in Fauquier County, where they will follow Route 17 north to Route 50 west. This route will take them to Interstate 81 in Frederick County, about 13 miles north of the junction with I-66.

Drivers can also expect significant congestion in the town of Front Royal, due to traffic that was on the interstate before the current detour was put in place.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
