STAUNTON –  (9:15 a.m.) Both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 are closed in the Staunton area due to a tractor trailer accident just south of exit 220. This closure may remain in effect for several hours, and is also expected to cause congestion on roads around the city of Staunton.

A detour route is being established for southbound I-81 traffic. Drivers will be directed off the interstate at exit 220 onto Route 262. They will turn south on Route 11 and re-enter the interstate at exit 213 near Greenville.
