STAUNTON – Valley Ridge Road (Route 1104) in the Covington area of Alleghany County is closed due to a rock slide, which has left debris and a boulder in the road.  The road was closed on Monday, March 3.  This location is near Heatherton Drive (Route 1109).

The Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton District geologist performed an evaluation of the site on Tuesday, March 4.  The evaluation determined that some slope stabilization work is needed.

VDOT will have its on-call contractor  perform the stabilization work beginning on Wednesday, March 5.  Barring any unforeseen circumstances this work is anticipated to be complete by the end of the day on Friday, March 7 with the road reopen at that time.  This work is weather permitting.
