ONE LANE OPEN ON SOUTHBOUND I-81 IN ROCKINGHAM COUNTY
STAUNTON – (9:15 a.m.) The left lane has reopened on Interstate 81 southbound in Rockingham County, following a crash that took place earlier this morning at mile marker 261 south of New Market. Southbound I-81 traffic is backed up about seven miles. Motorists may experience related congestion on Route 11 in Rockingham and Shenandoah counties.
During the accident about 7:15 this morning, a dump-truck bed struck the Route 793 (Concord Church Road) overpass. The Virginia Department of Transportation is inspecting the bridge for any possible damage. Route 793 and the right lane of southbound I-81 will remain closed until the inspection is complete.
