STAUNTON – (10:25 a.m.) Both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 are closed in Rockingham County, as bridge engineers from the Virginia Department of Transportation inspect the Route 793 overpass. About 7:15 this morning a dump-truck bed struck the underside of the bridge, which is located near mile marker 261 south of New Market.

Until the bridge inspection is complete, southbound I-81 traffic is being detoured at exit 264 (New Market/Timberville/Luray). Motorists will travel west on Route 211, south on Route 42 and continue south on Route 259 to return to the interstate at exit 257 (Mauzy/Broadway).

Route 793 (Concord Church Road) is also closed pending the result of the bridge inspection.
