Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) established a Bicycle Advisory Committee in 1989 as a forum for open communication and information exchange between the department, other state agencies, federal agencies, advocates, and citizens regarding bicycling opportunities across the commonwealth.

Members of this committee meet periodically to discuss VDOT policies, standards and practices that affect the bicycling and walking community.

The committee members are asked to share this information with the bicycling community and other interested groups.

The committee's format provides an opportunity for members to address a variety of topics and foster mutual understanding. The committee works together on specific projects such as the State Bicycle Policy Plan, Bicycling in Virginia map, "Share the Road" signs and informational materials.

The committee reconvened on March 27, 2014 and was rebranded as the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee to add pedestrian opportunities as part of its purview.
