Virginia's Scenic Byways

Scenic Byway

VDOT's free Map of Scenic Roads in Virginia can be ordered online

Virginia is for lovers. Lovers of history, scenic beauty and simple solitude can find these pleasures and much more, simply by taking a drive on a scenic road.

Virginia has nearly 3,000 miles of special roads that offer something for everyone. Many of these are officially designated as Virginia Byways, such as Route 5, or national scenic parkways, such as the Blue Ridge Parkway.

A Virginia Byway offers travelers a side of the Commonwealth that is uncommon and revealing. Each byway leads to scenes of natural beauty and places of historical and social significance.

The four regions highlighted here offer a sample of the wonderful variety you’ll find on Virginia’s scenic  roads.

A journey along Virginia’s scenic roads is one measured in memories instead of miles.
