Replacement of the Interstate 81 bridges over Halls Bottom Road near exit 10 in Washington County is underway.
Northbound Interstate 81 traffic was shifted to a newly constructed portion of the Interstate 81 bridges at Halls Bottom Road, located near exit 10. With traffic shifted, crews are removing the old northbound bridge to replace it, followed by the southbound bridge.
Due to safety concerns, Route 808 (Halls Bottom Road) is closed underneath the interstate bridges. Only emergency-response vehicles will have access; all other vehicle traffic will be required to detour. (Completion: Fall 2018)
The Commonwealth Transportation Board recently awarded an $11.3 million contract to design and rebuild the Interstate 81 bridges over Route 808 (Halls Bottom Road) in Washington County. The bridges are located near exit 10.
Orders Construction Company, St. Albans, W.Va., will be responsible for design and replacement of the bridges.
Construction will began in September 2016 and be finished by fall 2018.
Motorists should be alert to nighttime lane closures and the possibility of delays. Halls Bottom Road will be closed underneath the interstate bridges to ensure safety of motorists during construction.
VDOT will coordinate activities between the Halls Bottom work zone near exit 10 and the exit 14 work zone to ensure safety for motorists.
