What's Being Done?

VDOT’s Six-Year Improvement Plan includes full-funding to improve access along a section of Route 23 in the Gate City area of Scott County, as well as add a Park and Ride lot at the intersection of Route 619.

The project includes drainage improvements, installation of north and southbound left turn lanes at the intersection of Route 619, the closing off of six of the nine crossovers along Route 23 to improve safety, and construction of a park and ride lot adjacent to Route 619.

Design work for the project, valued at $7 million, is currently underway. Right of way is scheduled to begin in 2019, followed by construction in 2020.

A design public hearing for the Route 23 access improvements was held late January 2017.
