Interstate 64 at Route 250
The Charlottesville-Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Organization applied for and received $18.4 million in funding through the SMART SCALE process to build a diverging diamond interchange (DDI) on Route 250 and make other low-cost improvements for safety and congestion relief.
Virginia’s first DDI opened in 2014 at the I-64/Route 15 interchange at Zion Crossroads in Louisa County; two others have been completed at the I-581 Valley View interchange in Roanoke and at the I-66/Route 15 interchange in Haymarket.
Preliminary engineering work is expected to begin in summer 2018.
