What Is Proposed?

Currently funded for preliminary engineering only, this project proposes to reconstruct a 3.62-mile stretch of Route 208 (New Bridge Road) between Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) and the Spotsylvania County line. Estimated at $18.9 million, the project would rebuild the two-lane road to meet current design standards.

Status

In September 2016, Louisa County submitted two SMART SCALE project applications that would make improvements along Route 208:

  • A $14.1 million project to fully fund improvements from Route 522 to Lake Anna:  application  |  scorecard
  • A $7.9 million project to focus improvements on the eastern end of Route 208 between Route 652 (Kentucky Springs Road) and Lake Front Drive:  application  |  scorecard

SMART SCALE scoring was released on Jan. 17, 2017, and neither project was recommended for funding (see page 18 of this presentation); however, a final decision by the Commonwealth Transportation Board will not be made until June 2017.
