Project Purpose
The primary purpose of this project is to improve sight distance at the intersection of Route 614 (Twymans Mill Road) and Route 706 (Turner Drive) in Madison County.
What Is Proposed?
Work will include re-grading Route 614 and modifying its side slopes with a goal of improving safety at the intersection.
The existing roadway is approximately 18 feet wide with variable shoulder widths. The road’s current condition impacts the available sight distance at the intersection.
VDOT will close Route 614 for a 10-week period during construction. The proposed detour route uses Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to Route 622 (Tanners Road) to Route 705 (Twymans Mill Road) and back to Route 614.
According to a 2010 traffic count, Route 614 carries 430 vehicles per day at this location. Route 706 carries 150 vehicles per day.
