Project Purpose & Details
The primary purpose of this project is to improve sight distance at the intersection of Route 614 (Twymans Mill Road) and Route 706 (Turner Drive) in Madison County.
Work will include re-grading Route 614 and modifying its side slopes with a goal of improving safety at the intersection.
The existing roadway is approximately 18 feet wide with variable shoulder widths. The road’s current condition impacts the available sight distance at the intersection.
VDOT will close Route 614 through the project's Oct. 17 completion date. A detour will be posted to direct westbound traffic to Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to Route 230 (Orange Road) to Route 705 (Twymans Mill Road) and back to Route 614. Eastbound traffic will reverse the detour.
Access will be maintained to all driveways and entrances.
According to a 2015 traffic count, Route 614 carries 450 vehicles per day at this location. Route 706 carries 150 vehicles per day.
