Project Details
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is planning to reconstruct Route 17 to alleviate flooding near June Parker Marina.
This key project will maintain Route 17 as an evacuation route during emergencies by raising the roadway elevation.
The project limits are 0.17 miles north of Marsh Street to 0.11 miles south of Airport Road.
Route 17 will be maintained as four lanes, with a 45 mph design speed. It will have a sidewalk along the eastbound lanes on the bridge and south toward Tappahannock, and shared lanes designed to accommodate bicyclists.
A public hearing on the project was held on November 29, 2011, and a public comment period was held from November-December 2011.
