Project Details

The Virginia Department of Transportation is expanding the VDOT-owned Park & Ride commuter lot on Route 627 (Gordon Road) in Spotsylvania County to add approximately 500 new parking spaces. The parking lot is located at the intersection of Route 3 and Gordon Road.

Other changes include:

  • A dedicated slugging pickup and dropoff line
  • A centralized area for buses
  • A second entrance to the lot on Harrison Road in addition to the existing Gordon Road entrance
  • A pedestrian sidewalk connecting the lot with commercial development at Harrison Crossing

The project was advertised for construction in May 2014, and awarded to General Excavation, Inc. Construction work mobilized in fall 2014, and will be completed by December 2015.

Summer 2015: Traffic Shifts

New! The western half of the original Gordon Road Park & Ride lot will re-open to traffic the week of August 17-21, 2015.

The eastern half of the original lot will close for refurbishment and paving the same day the western half re-opens.

When the western half of the lot opens, HOV carpooling users will have a new carpool/slugging pickup and dropoff area.

Message boards and signs will direct High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) traffic to a new platform area for pickup and dropoff.

When the western half of the lot opens, 650 parking spaces will be available for public use during the final phase of construction.

When construction is complete this fall, the lot will have a total of 1,052 parking spaces.

Spotsylvania Farmers Market

The Spotsylvania Farmers Market will remain open during all phases of construction. Market customers should park in the new, expanded section of the Gordon Road lot and walk to the market area.

On Friday evenings, vanpool drivers should park in the new parking area, as far to the north as possible. This will allow space for the Spotsylvania Farmers Market to operate on Saturdays, and for customers to have parking available close to the market.
