Project Details
The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to enhance safety and add vehicle capacity by building left turn lanes on Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) from the intersection of Route 1 to 0.35 miles east of Route 1 in Caroline County.
All road widening to accommodate the new turn lanes will be on the northern side of Route 639, with right turn lanes being replaced at the existing entrance of Wright's Chapel Church, Center Drive, and the adjacent shopping center.
Construction will occur on the south side of Route 639 primarily for the increased shoulder width and stormwater management requirements.
Left turns from eastbound Route 639 will be accommodated with a universal left turn lane. This approach will allow left turns from westbound Route 639 should the land to the south become developed.
