Project Details
A variety of traffic barriers along Interstate 264 in Virginia Beach are failing. The current barriers are unsafe and degrading and cannot
adequately protect the motoring public from the safety hazards behind them if impact were to occur. The repairs are being done to barriers that are placed along the shoulders on I-264. There are no barriers in the median that need replacing at this time.
Crews have identified that the wall failures are due to soil creep, uncontrollable drainage, erosion undercutting and trenching, and moving water in the ditch lines behind the walls.
The upcoming project will repair:
•Westbound from Witchduck Road to the collector lane split before Newtown Road.
•Eastbound in front of Mount Trashmore
•Eastbound in front of Lake Trashmore
