About the Project:
This proposed three-phase project will replace a number of temporary patches currently in place on I-64 east if the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. The first stretch of roadway to be replaced will extend from the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel to Little Creek in Norfolk, slated for spring 2011. Phase II replacement repairs will continue from Little Creek to the Twin Bridges in Norfolk. This project began in June 2011. The third and final phase, extends from the Twin Bridges to Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake.
Total Cost for Entire Project: $21.6 million
Phase One (9.7 miles in length) - Contract awarded to Dorey Electric in the amount of $5.05 million
Phase Two (8.5 miles in length) - Contract awarded to Curtis Contracting in the amount of $14 million
Phase Three (3.7 miles in length) - Contract awarded to Dorey Electric in the amount of $2.62 million
As of May 2012, the current status of the project is as follows:
A one mile stretch of the third phase involving concrete grinding began in October 2011. Crews sawed out and patched the old concrete slabs, which was followed by grinding to improve the riding surface. This small section of phase three was completed in December 2011.
All three Phases have been awarded and work has resumed.
