Project Details

Crews will mill the existing I-64 High Rise eastbound lanes and bridge deck, followed by repaving of the roadway with a Latex-Modified Concrete Overlay. The specialty material used in the concrete overlay will curtail water seepage into the roadway. After paving is complete crews plan to reseal the deck joints and paint new pavement markings. Milling work is scheduled to take place during weeknight, alternating lane closures and paving will occur during two weekend closures, in an effort to provide a better end product with fewer seams in the concrete overlay.

Project Update

All paving operations will occur during periods with the least possible impact to motorists, while maintaining safe and efficient travel conditions throughout the area.  The closures will occur over multiple weekends beginning March 2, and will continue until the work is complete. The I-64 High Rise Bridge eastbound lanes will close at 7 p.m. on Fridays and reopen by 5 a.m. on Mondays.

Crews will close both lanes of the I-64 east High Rise Bridge, towards Suffolk, and one westbound lane towards Chesapeake, on Friday, Mar. 30, 2012, at 7 p.m. The lanes will reopen on Monday, Apr. 2, by 5 a.m.. Crews will finalize milling and repaving operations on the eastbound traffic lanes. One westbound lane will be affected due to placement of machinery during paving operations.

These scheduled maintenance activities are weather dependent.
