What’s Being Done
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are conducting a study of the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT) corridor from I-664 in Hampton to I-564 in Norfolk (approximately 11 miles).
The purpose of this study is to identify transportation needs in the HRBT corridor and to evaluate the impacts of proposed improvements to meet those needs. An EIS is being prepared for the project in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
Through the NEPA process, the study team, using input from the public and from various state and federal agencies, is:
- Examining transportation problems such as capacity and roadway deficiencies
- Developing alternatives to address those problems
- Evaluating the impacts of the alternatives
