What's Being Done

This project extends from Camp Peary to Jefferson Avenue along I-64. It began in May 2005 and is expected to be complete by Spring 2008. Work includes concrete joint replacement, guardrail replacement and other repairs on approximately 16 miles of interstate. Crews have completed work on the westbound lanes and continue to work on the eastbound lanes. Pavement replacement is performed at night with all lanes open to traffic by 6 a.m. Guardrail work that can be completed without lane closures is being performed during daytime.

Impact on Traffic

In order to conduct the paving repairs, lane closures will occur in the project area during nighttime hours. The contractor is restricted to the time that he can close the roadway as well as the number of lanes he can close. The contractor is not permitted to close any lanes between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., and must leave at least one lane open between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. The contractor is also not allowed to have any lane closures over major holidays.
