About the Project:

In spring 2011, crews began replacing 19,000 square yards of concrete pavement on I-264 between Broad Creek Bridge and Claiborne Avenue in Norfolk.  Under that contract crews were only able to complete the westbound lanes and one eastbound shoulder lane.

Crews finalized work in all westbound lanes and the right, eastbound lane only due to cost overruns which occurred because of the extensive deterioration of the concrete in the westbound lanes which occurred between advertisement of the project and construction.

A second contract was developed to complete the rest of the I-264 east lanes in this area. The contract went for bid in January 2013 and was expedited for award in February 2013 due to deteriorating conditions on I-264.

Crews are performing operations overnight and on weekends as weather permits.

Current Status

After major repairs were needed on Feb. 8, 2013, crews were called in to perform emergency concrete rehabilitation and started work immediately. Since Feb. 8, crews have been working on the permanent concrete repairs in this area overnight and on some weekends, as traffic conditions permit.
