Crews successfully completed the bridge replacement project on July 25, 2017. They have removed the detour and traffic is flowing. You can read the release here.
This bridge replacement project was advertised for construction in September 2014. Curtis Contracting was awarded the contract for $4.8 million. Notice to Proceed was given in March of 2015, and construction began on May 18, 2015.
This project involved the replacement of the bridge carrying the southbound lanes of Sussex Drive (Route 301) over the CSX railroad tracks approximately 3 miles north of the Emporia city limits. The limits of the project were from 0.3 miles north of the railroad tracks (near Blanks Lane) to 0.3 miles south of the railroad tracks (near Country Club Road) for a total project length of approximately 0.6 miles.
