About the Project

The Sewells Point project is designed to improve intersection conflicts at Sewells Point Road (Route 194) and Princess Anne Road (Route 166).

Project enhancements include:

  • Installing an updated traffic signal with pedestrian push button controls
  • Striping crosswalks
  • Repaving the south side of the intersection
  • Storm drainage upgrades

Intersection safety improvements will also be made to help facilitate large truck access to Norfolk Industrial Park. During the project, VDOT, the contractor, Norfolk Police Department and the Department of Public Works will work together to coordinate detours and lane closures. Closures will be arranged to ensure a minimal amount of inconvenience to the motoring public.

Detours

During construction, traffic along the south side of the intersection will be detoured onto Azalea Garden Road (Route 192). Both eastbound and westbound lanes on Princess Anne Road will remain open to motorists throughout construction with potential single lane closures as needed.
