About the Project

This project will provide strategic connectivity between U.S. Route 60 and State Route 143 in the area of the Walmart Distribution Center in James City County. The connector will help to redirect industrial traffic from the vicinity of the James River Elementary School and the Lee Hall community in the city of Newport News. 


Improvements include a four-lane connector from U.S. Route 60 to State Route 143, two bridges on the proposed connector and a traffic signal at the new intersections. These improvements are critical to the regional transportation system for providing improved access to Virginia’s ports and enhanced accessibility to existing corporations.

This project was requested by James City County to be included in  the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization FY2009-2012 Transportation Improvement Program, and was recently added to the  Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization 2030 Long-Range Transportation Plan as a stand-alone project for Preliminary Engineering and Right-of-Way. 

Review is underway. The estimated schedule for completion:
