I-64 Battlefield Boulevard Project

About the Project

The Battlefield Boulevard Project will replace the existing interchange on Interstate 64. Widening a two mile stretch of the highway, from six to fourteen lances, will improve traffic and reduce congestion.

Project details:

• This project runs from the Greenbrier Mall exit (exit 289) to the Battlefield Boulevard exit (exit 291).
  
  
• Two additional detached lanes in each direction to help with merging on and off the interstate.
  
  
• Widening of the Battlefield Boulevard bridge from one to three lanes in each direction. The bridge is open to traffic during construction.
  
  
• Addition of one HOV lane in each direction.
  
  
• New braided exit ramps separating merging traffic from oncoming traffic.
  
  
• Five newly constructed bridges.
  
  
• Four additional lanes of travel in each direction.
  
  
• The contractor for this $98.6 million project is E.V. Williams, headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia.
  
  
• This project is expected to take three years to complete. The anticipated completion date in July 31, 2009.
  
  
• Currently the project is 75 percent complete.
