Community Involvement

VDOT and FHWA sponsored a series of stakeholder interviews, community dialogues, public workshops, and an open house from September to November 2004. Over 140 invitations were sent to a diverse group of individuals and representatives from business and community organizations and government agencies to participate in the community dialogues. Another 112 e-mail broadcasts and fliers were distributed to civic and homeowner association representatives asking their assistance in notifying their constituents of the October 26 & 27, 2004, Public Workshops and the November 3, 2004, Open House. In addition, over 42,000 newsletters announcing these meetings were sent to citizens living along the I-66 and Dulles Airport Access Road corridors.

During the community dialogues and the workshops, participants were asked to help identify the problems and possible concepts that could help reduce congestion on I-66 westbound. Participants also provided suggestions for evaluating and measuring the proposed solutions. Click here to view the concepts obtained through the community dialogues and public workshops.

See what participants from the community dialogues and the public workshops had to say is causing the problem on I-66 Westbound between the Rosslyn Tunnel and the Dulles Access Road, the concepts they think would address the problem, and the evaluation criteria that should be used to determine whether the concept could successfully address the problem.
