What is being done?
The Greenview Drive Intersection Improvement Project in Lynchburg is being designed to widen the intersection to increase capacity and improve sight distances. This will be accompanied by widening the intersection from two to four through lanes and adding separate left and right turn lanes in each direction. Vertical sight distances on Greenview Drive and Airport Road will be improved by raising the grades on each side of the intersection with Leesville Road.
Additional project features include: sidewalks, shared use paths, new traffic signals, stormwater management facilities, new lighting and landscaping.
All right of way needed for this project has been cleared. Utility relocations are nearing completion.

Branch Highways has completed the demolition of the structures on parcels 025 and 026. Borrow material needed for the approach fills is being stockpiled on the project. Erosion and sediment control measures are being installed and maintained throughout the project. Work has begun on the installation of stormwater management facilities along Greenview Drive. Work will soon begin on the demolition of the medians and the temporary pavement widening needed to maintain the project throughout the construction phase.
Anticipated Traffic Impacts
Traffic will be maintained along Greenview Drive and Airport Road throughout construction. Leesville Road will be widened with temporary pavement to maintain through/right and left turn lanes during construction and to minimize potential closure periods. Short duration closures on each leg of Leesville Road with temporary detours may be required to complete grading work and paving within the intersection.
