What's Being Done
A bridge is being constructed parallel and just east of the existing bridge to provide north- and southbound traffic and a new multiuse trail for bicycles and pedestrians will be included on the northbound side. Memorial Drive will be widened and reconstructed to accommodate the new traffic pattern. Park Avenue will be widened to provide an additional lane for northbound traffic. A landscaped median will be constructed on Memorial Drive between Piedmont Drive and Park Avenue.
Benefits
The additional lanes on the new bridge will greatly improve traffic flow and reduce delay in the area by carrying twice the traffic on every signal phase for most left turns and creating free flow lanes for several right turn movements.Page last modified: Nov. 16, 2011
