What's Being Done
The superstructure and a portion of the substructure of the existing bridge will be replaced due to damage caused when struck by an overheight vehicle.
Benefits
The damage will be repaired to ensure the safety of the traveling public. In addition, the design will be upgraded to current standards.
Impact on Traffic
Route 29 Business to Chatham (from Route 29 northbound) will be closed for the duration of the project.During overnight hours beginning Monday, June 25th, southbound US 29 traffic will be detoured through the Town of Chatham for the setting of steel. Operations will begin at 7:00 p.m. each evening and will occur over a two-day period. During work over the northbound bypass section, due to safety requirements, the inside northbound lane of the bypass will be closed and traffic will be stopped at intervals for as long as 20 minutes. Again, this work will take place each evening for a two-day period. It is anticipated that the northbound work will occur after the July 4th holiday.
