What's Being Done

A total of nine construction contracts comprised the entire US 29 Lynchburg/Madison Heights Bypass project that provides an alternative to the heavily congested US 29 Business route from the City of Lynchburg, through the community of Madison Heights and to the Town of Amherst in Amherst County.

Features

The Bypass lies east of the former- Route 29 (now US 29 Business) and has major terminal interchanges on the south end at existing Route 460 in Campbell County near the east Lynchburg City Limits, and on the north end at the Route 29 at the south end of the Town of Amherst. There are two additional connections from the Bypass to Route 29 in Madison Heights, one at the Route 210 interchange and the second at a new interchange with Route 130.

Impact on Traffic

The Madison Heights Bypass relieves the traffic congestion on US Route 29 Business north and south from Lynchburg to Amherst, Virginia.
