Charles City Courthouse Phase
This is an eight-mile segment that stretches from Virginia Commonwealth University's Rice Center for Environmental Life Sciences to the Charles City Courthouse. This phase was built entirely within existing right of way.
In conjunction with this project, Charles City County is developing a visitor center and comfort station at the historic courthouse complex in a renovated clerk’s office.
Representatives from VDOT, VCU's Rice Center, and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are working together to design an interpretive site that will be located at the western end of this phase of the Trail.
Cost: The combined estimated cost for design and construction of this phase of the Capital Trail is $5 million.
Status: Trail construction was completed in July 2009.
